sonmarg is a beautiful green valley surrounded by the flowing milky waters of sindh river. in summers sonmarg provides a breathtaking landscape of lush hills, snowy peaks, grasslands and verdant forests, brooks with cold water, sharp & chiseled mountains seem to come alive from a painting.  this is also a gate way to shangrilla called ladakh. on the way to sonmarg there are beautiful little villages which sprout on the banks of sindh, the rural life of these villagers depends mostly on agriculture and raising livestock. The summers provide much  activities for tourists they can enjoy trekking, pony riding, or visit the beautiful thajwas glacier which is not far from sonmarg market or drive to zero point which is located much higer near zojilla pass.

A day trip is good to cover this valley, people who are looking for a relaxing experience or want to spend a night away from srinagar can stay in sonmarg for night. it has some good hotels. and camps. during amarnath yatra it gets busy and crowded as thousands of pilgrims come for annual yatra. local people earn their livelihood from this yatra, like porters and pony wallas are used to carry the stuff or provide a helping hand to weary pilgrims. the langars are run free by various organizations. when you are in kashmir don’t miss to visit this charismatic valley of meadows of gold known as in local dialect. sonmarg personifies the glory of Kashmir.
